Rocking Chair

When I was a little girl, a friend of the family gave me a small rocking chair. It's been at my mother's house for years until she brought it up to me a few weekends ago.

The Girl loves it.

Permanent

They have been working on the water main on our block for over a month. They tore up the entire sidewalk on our side of the street. Yesterday, they finally poured a new one. Wet cement and a little boy? We had to make a hand print.

The Boy's turned out great. The Girl's? Eh....it's pretty much just a smudge. I sort of regret this now since this isn't our house, but we just couldn't pass it up.

Stake Conference

My grandmother and two of her friends came up this weekend to attend my stake's conference. They did that because our former Stake President from long ago was going to be there. It's this man:

We got to sit close and listen for both sessions. On Sunday morning, the Boy came with us. I asked him if he wanted to meet Elder Bednar and shake his hand. He was indecisive at first but finally settled on being shy and not meeting him.

While we were sitting in conference, the Boy leaned over to me and asked, "What's he like", meaning Elder Bednar. I said, "Well, he's nice, and smart, and he loves Heavenly Father and Jesus very much". The Boy got excited and said, "He's just like me!"

After that he decided it would be okay to meet him. He drew him a picture and went up to give it to him after the meeting. They shook hands. Elder Bednar squatted down, asked the Boy his name and his age, and thanked him for the card. It was very sweet and I felt so blessed not only to be there myself, but also to give my child the chance to hear and meet an apostle in person.

St. Patrick's Day

We didn't go to a parade or have cute food. We didn't celebrate in any other way, but dang it we wore green.

Self Inflicted Time Out

Feels Like Summer

Yesterday was a full day for us. Since we had a playdate scheduled and it was over 80s degrees out, we decided to meet the Boy's friend in the park.
They had a good time playing together for nearly three hours.

In that very same park, on that very same day...this guy showed up.

The playground ended up being a very strategic and uncrowded spot to get a look at him. My camera is not zoomed in - we were that close and exchanged a "Hello, nice to see you".

After we got home, I made carrot cake balls for the Book Club I hosted last night. I only had one that turned out pretty. But they still tasted delicious.

We all crashed hard at the end of the day.

Wacky Wednesday

The Boy's school celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday last week by having Wacky Wednesday. They encouraged the kids to dress up and look crazy.

How handy was it that he was Thing 1 for Halloween?

Let the Spirit Move You

The Man came home to both of the punks in the bath tub. Almost immediately the Boy had something to tell him. He said, "Dad, I almost pooped in the bath but then I decided to poop in the toilet instead". When The Man asked him what caused him to change his mind, he replied, "The Holy Ghost".

It's My Birthday

I plan on celebrating with two recently acquired passions.

Because I love it and because The Man got me beautiful new cups (not the one in the picture), I'll have a hot cup of Peach Tranquility herbal "tea".

And I'll catch up on this lovely little show, which goes perfectly with my drink.

I may also do a little work out with the present I bought for myself yesterday.

Nice Purse!

Last night we went out to dinner with some friends. On the way out of the pizza place, I was carrying the Girl so The Man took my purse for me. As we waited at the corner to cross the street, the Boy looked at The Man and in a very sarcastic tone said, "Nice purse!"

We all had a good little laugh at that.

Valentine's Day

We had a busy Valentine's starting with preschool. I helped out with the Boy's class party. I had my hands so full there, I didn't take a single picture. His froggy valentine's box was a hit, though. I also don't have a picture of that.

I do have a picture of the pajamagram The Man gave me. Footy pajamas for adults. That's right. I'm not ashamed to look like Ralphie from A Christmas Story because these babies are soft, comfortable, and warm. I told The Man he may have made a huge mistake as I may never take these off.

It's Good to be Five

The Boy celebrated his birthday twice. He woke up Thursday to banners and balloons (and the traditional crown, which was quickly replaced by a Yankees hat since he's a big five-year-old now and crowns are not as cool as they were last year).

Later that day, we celebrated with his friend by having cherry slurpees at the bounce gym.

He took some cupcakes to school the next day.

We had dinner with Papa that night then came home, opened awesome presents, and had cookie cake.

My baby is getting big.

Morning Prayers

She can fold her arms and say 'amen'. (She can also pull the DVDs out of the TV stand and try to sweep them up with the car's snow brush.)
Coming next: The Boy turned five!

Looking Forward...

We move in six months. I would like my New York friends to start thinking about coming to visit me in California. I'll give you one good reason and it's the only reason you need...Taco Temple. Go ahead, Google it.

More Craftiness

I'm on a craft kick. I was looking for a Family Home Evening board to buy and couldn't find one that I liked or that suited my plans. So I made my own.

The board part was a pain in the neck, but I loved the glass bubble magnets. Those weren't so difficult.

And since I had so many left over when I was finished with the board, I made more for the fridge.

Bows

The Girl has a lot of bows - especially after Christmas. Here is how I used to store them.

The basket wasn't working out for me. It was ugly. It was inconvenient. I needed a bow holder. I needed a custom one that could hold big bows and some very tiny little clips.

I hadn't seen one that could do both, so I decided to make my own. I found an idea I liked here, went shopping, and got busy with a staple gun.

I used wider ribbon for the bigger bows and the narrow ribbon for the clips.

I think it turned out really cute.

Ahhhh....organization.

It's a Girl Thing

The Girl has enjoyed her spoils of Christmas. The clothes....
...ohhhhh the clothes.
And more clothes and bows and this cute little baby backpack that she loves.

She loves to sing "Tonight, Tonight" by Hot Chelle Rae. She also thinks it's hilarious to give me kisses then wipe them off and say "ewwww". These are things I'd like to capture on video, but once the camera comes out she becomes more interested in that than in performing.

We did manage to get duck, duck, goose, though.

She yells "niiiiiiiiiiight" at bedtime, and "hello?" when the phone rings. She also says "I love you" but it comes out as "luh low". It's exactly the same way she says "yellow", but I don't mind - it's still just as sweet.

The Incredibles

We got the Boy The Incredibles movie for Christmas. He really loves it. This is what I'm hearing from his room right now where he is supposed to be having "quiet" time.

"Honey, where is my super suit?! You tell me where my suit is woman!! We are talking about the greater good!"

"Greater good?? I am your wife. I am the greatest gooooood you are ever gonna get!"

Hehe...

A Long December Post

Christmas starts early in the month with a little concert at the Boy's preschool.

He made a gingerbread person at the class party. He said it was his little sister - I guess she does often look like this.

We had dinner and gifts with Papa.

And took a little trip down to Arkansas to visit my family.

And open gifts.

And open more gifts. This is a good time to mention that The Man got me the Frye boots I've been wanting for years!
And show off our newest fashions.

It was busy! Hope you had a Merry Christmas, tutu!
