The Sing Off
I love The Sing Off. This season there is a group from BYU on it. I had to post this performance from last night in case any of you don't watch. It took me back to Junior High.
Unfortunately their next song wasn't so good...so they got booted off.

On Halloween, We Know What to Do...
...we have lots of fun with Thing 1 and Thing 2!We decorated popcorn balls that Aunt JoJo sent us.
We briefly attended the trunk-or-treat at church where they served pizza, had bonfires, and put the Cardinals game up on a big screen outside so no one would miss it.
And Thing 1 had a parade and party at his school.
We had fun!

Pregnancy Scare
I had a dream last night that I managed to make it to 38 weeks of pregnancy before I realized I was even pregnant. I love my kids, but I was super glad to wake up.

Moving On
I've lived in plenty of places now I think.
South? Arkansas. Check.
West? Utah. Check.
Northeast? New York. Check.
Midwest? Missouri. Check.
I've covered three time zones. It's time to add a fourth. The Man was offered a contract in California. Assuming it's acceptable, we're off to the central coast next summer.
Really, really excited.

Field Trip
The Boy went on his first field trip with his new preschool. We took a walking tour of our little downtown. Within walking distance of his school is the library, the farmer's market, a bakery, the fire department, a candy shop, and finally a little park.
They got a litte something in their bag at each place.
It was a perfect morning for it. The girl and I had a nice time, too.

Motor Skills
I can use a fork.
I can stab the food.
I can put it in my pie hole.
Life is good.

California
After the go-go trip in NYC last week (more on that later), we are here in Pismo Beach while Grandpa Jim watches the kids.
I slept here last night.
I had orange juice in a champagne flute while in a bath robe this morning. This was my view of the ocean from the room's deck. I'll be reading a good part of the morning here. Life is good, but I miss my kids.

I'm So Lame
I have definitely become the uncool mom. Today during breakfast the Boy asked me to watch how big of a bite he could take. So I did and feigned awe. Then I abruptly broke out into a song of, "I like big BITES and I cannot lieeeeeeee you other brothers can't denyyyyyyyyy...."
My poor children. I see a lot of embarrassment in their future.

It's Unanimous
I don't like cucumber. Never have, never will. I thought my kids might like to try it, though - so I bought one. I cut it up and gave the Boy a nibble. He spit it in the trash can after 0.4 miliseconds. I really thought the Girl would eat it, but she took one bite and dropped the rest onto the floor. This is the same girl that found a body piercing at a public pool and put it in her mouth. She'll eat that, but not a cucumber. I called the dog in to clean up the mess....even she wouldn't eat it.
It is therefore my conclusion that cucumbers are undeniably gross.

She's a Lady
If we've taught the Girl anything, it's that you should say "Excuse me" after fake burping. We are proper like that.

Hair Genes
I have quietly cursed the double crown on the back of the Girl's cranium. While it created an adorable mohawk right down the middle of her head as a newborn, it now just causes hair drama for me. I have wondered where she got this weird mop that grows in an oddly forward direction, at different rates and therefore different lengths. Then I came across this picture taken last night and realized I have only myself to blame. When this was taken, I didn't even know I had unintended, partial bangs nor that they were hanging in my face. Avada Kedavra on my hair DNA.

Major League
I took the Boy to his first major league baseball game last night - the Cardinals vs. the Rockies.
I thought it would be exciting for him to watch the pitchers and the batters and the runners. He was more interested in the metro ride to the stadium. Not sure why he decided to pose like this at the metro stop.
While we enjoyed spending time together in a new experience, the game probably would have been better if the Rockies weren't beating us 5-0 in the 6th inning. Oh well. There's always the NFL.

Gone Fishin'
The Boy went fishing for the first time yesterday. They didn't catch anything, but isn't that exactly how fishing goes?

A Milestone
This is amazing for two reasons. The first is that after a year of sleeping in a Pack 'N' Play (because I'm a good mother like that), the Girl finally has a crib.
The more incredible thing is that it has all four bumpers. The Boy was deeply attached to his long bumper, which we called a "night night". If you've seen Mr. Mom, the Boy's night night was like his woobie. You may remember from this post that I tried to take it away from him before the Girl arrived - knowing that I would eventually need them. Unfortunately he found where I stored it and I didn't have the heart to take it away from him after she came.
As I was putting together the crib last month (finally), I decided she would be fine with three bumpers. I mean...she's a year old. When I was all finished, without prompting or request, the Boy brought his night night in from his room and put it in her crib. When I told him he didn't have to do that if he didn't really want to, he said, "She can have it. She needs it to be safe."
I thought that was a very big, mature step for him. Once in a while he does ask for it back. I decided to compromise with him. On occasion now, you may find him inside her crib, snuggling his night night.

First Steps
The Girl took her first step today at church right in front of the bishop. I guess she's trying to make a good impression. She kept trying and trying after that - this little one has tenacity.

We've Been Busy
St. Louis really does have a lot to do. We tried to take advantage of that before The Man had to start into work.
We hit the arch, of course. I thought it was more amazing from the outside than from the top.

We went to the children's museum here called The Magic House. It doesn't hold a candle to Strong, but I'm grateful for it all the same. The Boy did a little fishing in the river there.
We checked out the "free" zoo. By "free" they mean admission is free and everything else (including parking) will cost you an arm and a leg. It was incredibly hot the day we went, but we enjoyed it enough. I have no idea where my pictures of that trip went.
The Botanical Garden here is amazing and we got in on a totally free day (unlike the zoo). They even have little places here for the kids to get wet. I was sorry we didn't get pictures of that, but we will definitely go back. There was so much to see we weren't able to get it all in.

Fourth of July was celebrated solely by The Man and the Boy. They went to a little festival where he got to play in bubbles and make colored sand bracelets. Then he posed for a few phots at the neighborhood park before the fireworks started. This same park has a children's aquatic center only for residents of the three adjacent suburbs. How great is that? We are sure to make it there this week.
Liking the area quite a bit so far.
